This month’s Part of the Month was chosen by Porcupine Sales Engineer, Doug Simsarian. Doug picked one of our most popular parts, a full-color elastomeric banana. Doug was excited when Stratasys announced the capability to print Agilus CMY. As someone who eats a banana for breakfast every day, he was even more excited when we received this part. The part obviously looks like a real banana, but the feel is unnervingly realistic. It’s just missing the smell.
“My boss came over and saw the banana I was going to eat for breakfast on my desk and started bending it because he thought it was the PolyJet model,” says Doug. That’s how realistic it looks; it is playing mind games with people in the office. Doug even sent a side-by-side comparison photo of a real banana versus the printed banana to his friends and asked which one they thought was real. About 75% of his friends thought the 3D printed banana was the real one. That is how eerily realistic PolyJet printing has become.
Stratasys is continuing to add value for their existing install base with releases like Agilus CMY. The banana was printed on the J850 using Agilus CMY for its flexibility and color and then filled with support material to imitate the weight. The part was ready to go right off the tray, no need for post-processing.
PolyJet is known for its ability to create realistic concept prototypes and medical models. It can replicate intricate shapes and delicate features, making your parts look and feel like finished products. Like the J55 Prime, the J850 Prime can also print in color with different materials such as Vero and Digital ABS Plus. It can also print down to 55 microns with its Super High Speed mode.
There is so much freedom with PolyJet printing with over 650,000 color options and multiple material combinations, you can create just about anything. To learn more about your printer or material options, stop by our office or give us a call at 949.474.9222.
