When creating a prototype that requires a precise look and feel, adding something as simple as an acrylic clear-coat goes a long way. For this edition of 30 on 3D, Systems Supervisor, Jason Brown will discuss the benefits of using this application on FDM parts.

When binding two or more FDM pieces together, it’s recommended to sand down the seam to help achieve an accurate prototype. During this process, the part may acquire some marks due to the sanding that can be a bit harsh to the eye. Using an acrylic clear-coat on the seams helps reduce the visibility of the blemishes immensely. To take the project a step further towards final aesthetics, add a layer of texture coating to cover the seam completely and leave the part with a nice textured finish.
