On this edition of 30 on 3D our Senior R&D Cameron Williams explains how to add high quality threads to FDM thermoplastic parts with heat set threaded inserts.

To start off, you’ll need a few tools:

  • Soldering Iron
  • Specialized Tip For The Inserts
  • Inserts

Step One: Place the inserts into the specially designed holes. For the threads to successfully work, they need to fit perfectly within your FDM part.

Step Two: Use your preheated soldering iron to heat set the inserts into your plastic part.

Step Three: Use your compatible hardware with your new inserts.

If you have any questions about the process, be sure to reach out to us at ask@purpleplatypus.com or by calling 949.474.9222.
